Beauty and the Beast received six Academy Award nominations and won two, for Best Original Score (Alan Menken) and Best Original Song (Menken and Howard Ashman).

The popularity and success of Beauty and the Beast led to a Broadway stage production in 1994, which subsequently enjoyed a run of 13 years and over 5,000 performances.
